Wide leg jeans are so feminine, versatile and sophisticated - and that’s why they’ve been a favorite of mine. Over the last two years, we’ve been seeing lots of mom jeans, dad jeans and flares. But this Spring, the pant legs are getting even wider!
Since 91% of you voted that I should do a post designated to wide leg jeans, I’m delivering :).
New silhouettes take a moment to get used to, and to be honest, it took me a while to master the art of styling these (especially as a petite). So now that I can wear wide leg jeans with confidence, I’m excited to share my tips with you.
Wide-Leg Styling Tips
Choose tops that balance out the wide silhouette.
Because wide leg jeans have a lot of volume at the bottom, it’s important to choose tops that balance out the look. Fitted tees, bodysuits, and even blouses that are smocked in the bodice work extremely well. If you love a classic button down (or short sleeve button down), I’d suggest tying it at the waist.
Don’t overthink the shoes.
Being on the shorter side, shoes were my biggest challenge when I first started wearing wide leg jeans. Having worn this style for two years, I’ve now realized that they look good with almost anything. Most of the time, I pair them with pointy toe booties or mules. But, you can also pair them with sandals, espadrilles, and even sneakers. If you’re petite like me, choose sneakers that aren’t overly chunky.
Choose long-line or cropped jackets.
Outerwear and jackets are tricky, but as a general rule, I have found that cropped and long-line styles work well. Just like your mom jeans, classic moto jackets and trenches will complement the wide leg style nicely.
Finally, if you’re in the market… my personal favorite is the slim wide leg jean by Madewell. They’re slightly cropped, fitted through the hips/upper thighs, and they gradually become wider towards the bottom. They come in medium wash, light wash and white wash.
