Hair Styling Heroes
When it comes to styling products, I like to keep things simple. For me, it’s about quality over quantity. I only have a few products, but I know I can always count on them to get the job done!
Before I dive into my favorites, I should mention that my hair is medium thickness and a “straivy” texture. The individual strands are course. I have sections that are very wavy, and other sections that are straight throughout. When blow-drying, my hair goes straight fairly easily. Typically, I look for products that reduce frizz and provide me with long-lasting hold (without damaging my hair).
That said, I did my best to include products that address a variety of hair care needs in this post.
With all of that in mind, my favorite styling products are:
Oribe Gold Lust Hair Oil - My hairstylist, Ibo, at George Salon in DC introduced me to this one. He loves to apply it as a heat protectant before blowdrying, and also uses it add shine and reduce flyaways. It makes the hair so incredibly soft! At home, I use it every other time I blow dry my hair.
Living Proof Dry Volume Blast Texturizing Spray - This is the perfect product for creating beach waves (and it can be found at CVS, Walgreens, Ulta or Sephora). It has medium to strong hold, doesn’t make the hair overly crunchy, and adds both texture and volume. My hair doesn’t hold curl that well, but with this product, my curls will stay for a couple of days.
Living Proof Advanced Clean Dry Shampoo - As someone with a sensitive scalp, I’ve tried a lot of dry shampoos. This one is by far the best - it actually leaves my hair feeling clean. I spray this on between washes, leave it on for 30 seconds, and lather it in with my fingers. It pulls the grease from my roots and adds a little extra lift.
Color Wow Dream Coat - If you color your hair or have very wavy/course hair, this is an amazing product to use before blow drying. It acts as a heat protector, anti-frizz agent, and humidity protector all at once. For this reason, I rely on it heavily during the muggy DC summers. Not to mention, it gives the hair a beautiful, shiny finish.
R + Co Dallas Thickening Spray - The name of this one says it all, but the best part is the flexible hold. This spray will never leave your hair feeling crunchy! Whenever I do curls or beachwaves, I like to tease my hair at the crown and spray this at the roots. It gives my hair a little extra lift, and makes those waves look salon perfect. You can also use it as a volumizing spray throughout.
